South Asian Canadians Health & Social Services – SACHSS is a registered not for profit charity organisation. Our Programs and services include Health Education, Health Promotion, Mental Health, Addiction, Stress Management, Anger Management,988 Suicide Prevention Helpline (24/7/365 Helpline), SACHSS Distress Helpline Services, Food Bank & Outreach services to the poor and homeless people, and related health and social programs and services. We work with the legal system and provide counselling services to people with mental health and addiction issues, who have legal problems and counselling and treatment is mandated by the legal system. South Asian Canadians Health & Social Services – SACHSS is inviting applications for Canada Summer Jobs for youths between ages of 15 and 30 years for Community Mental Health Counsellor position. The job will involve counselling services, community services, working on our health journal, fundings and grant applications, helping with our website and our social media webites, special events and special programs, and helping with all programs and services of SACHSS including our SACHSS Food Bank and community outreach services.  Job Responsibilities:

1.Helping with Intakes and Registration of Clients, Documentation and paperwork

2.Helping with Group Counselling and Individual Counselling programs

3.Helping with Community Outreach Programs

  1. Writing journal articles for our health journal – SACHJ – South Asian Canadians Health Journal, putting together the journal and sending it to everyone in mailing list

5.Helping with Fundings and Grants Applications

  1. Helping with our SACHSS Food Bank
  2. Helping with our SACHSS Distress Helpline & Suicide Prevention Program

9.Helping with organising, promoting and running our Seniors Program, Women’s Progran and our Youth Program.

10.Outreach through phone calls and emails promoting SACHSS services to all hospitals, physicians, health care, mental health and social services professionals, organisations and agencies, legal system including lawyers, probation and parole officers and other community organisations.

11Special Events, social, cultural and recreational programs and fundraising projects,

  1. Research on Potential Funding for Mental Health and related services: The main objective of this research is to find out potential funding opportunities for Mental Health and related services from all three levels of Governments and Corporate and other funders.
  2. SACHSS Website and SACHSS Social media websites Development, Maintenance, Improvement and Promotion, including our social media websites facebook, youtube, twitter, instagram and linkedin.

To be eligible, youth must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment and,
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

The youth must be between 15 years and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment.

 

International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. As the objective of the Canada Summer Jobs program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student’s time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market.

SACHSS 988 & Other Programs Coordinator & Mental Health Counsellor Position

This is a new position with primary responsibility of 988 program. 988 is a new Govt. of Canada nationwide Suicide Prevention Distress Prevention call helpline program, similar
to Govt. of Canada nationwide 911 program. This program is funded by Govt. of Canada.
Reporting to the CEO of the organisation, SACHSS 988 & Other Programs Coordinator &
Mental Health Counsellor will be in charge of and take care of SACHSS 988 Suicide

Prevention Distress Helpline Crisis Calls Program. This position will also involve helping
with our other programs including our SACHSS Food Bank & Outreach Program, our Group and Individual Counselling Program, our Distress Line program and other duties as needed.
SACHSS 988 & Other Programs Coordinator & Mental Health Counsellor will provide counselling, collaborative and client centric services to our clients. The duties and

responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

Duties &Responsibilities:

  • In charge of and take care of SACHSS 988 Suicide Prevention Distress Helpline
  • Crisis Calls Program with the help of our SACHSS 988 Team members.
  • Will be taking care of and managing the SACHSS 988 calls/texts/chats from callers from
  • 9am to 9pm all 7 days a week including weekends and holidays. Will be assisted by up to 9 other trained team members in receiving the crisis calls.
  • Will pass on the calls/texts/chats to other team members if busy with 988 calls/texts/chats or when needed. Will be in charge of the team and will make sure all 988 calls/texts/chats are received and clients are helped.

This is a new program starting on November 30th ,2023. Job requirement may change as it is a new program as this program is still being organized and there may be evolving changes in the program and there may be changes in the exact nature of the program.

During the free times, times when not involved with 988 calls/texts/chats, will help
with other programs including:

  • SACHSS Food Bank & Outreach Program
  • Outreach Program in the community and community events
  • Mental Health/Addiction Counselling and Support – Group and Individual
  • Guide, Support and Supervise students and volunteers
  • Helping with Fundings and Grants applications
  • Helping with our programs and projects
  • Planning, Organizing, co-ordinating and running our programs including Group
  • Counselling Program, Seniors Program, Women’s Program, Youth Program and
  • Other duties as needed.
 
The successful candidate will possess

  • · Previous experience in counselling in mental health, addiction and other related areas
  • · University Degree or Community College Diploma in Psychology, Psychotherapy,
  • Counselling, Social Service or other qualifications as Internationally Educated Health Professional.
  • · Registration with a relevant college is preferred.
  • · Demonstrated experience supporting clients in the community setting
  • · We are looking for a candidate who is qualified, experienced, dedicated, flexible,
  • compassionate, responsible and kind, who can work well individually as well as a team.
  • · Excellent verbal and written communication skills and is highly organized.
  • · Background check for vulnerable sector
  • · Fluency in South Asian languages preferred.

Reporting to the CEO of the organization, the Program and Admin Coordinator provides collaborative and client centric services to our clients.
